Join us at the Dating Indigenous Art in the Kimberley, presented by Project Leader Professor Andy Gleadow.

Prof Gleadow is an Emeritus Professor of Earth Sciences at the University of Melbourne and a Director at Rock Art Australia (formerly Kimberley Foundation Australia). He has been a pioneer in the development of fission track dating methods for understanding the thermal and tectonic evolution of the continental crust, establishing Australia at the forefront of this field internationally. He has published widely on fission track and other thermochronological methods, especially as applied to extensional tectonics, the evolution of cratons and orogenic belts, sedimentary basin analysis, and landscape evolution.

He currently leads the major collaborative dating project aimed at establishing a robust time scale for the remarkable Indigenous rock art of the Kimberley Region of NW Australia. The project is taking a multi-disciplinary approach with a combination of dating technologies and, for the first time, large data sets to change our understanding of Australian Aboriginal rock art and its relationship to an evolving landscape.

We are delighted to have Prof Gleadow in the Club as he provides an enlightening presentation on the exquisite Kimberley Rock Art. There will also be time for a Q&A at the end of the lecture.
