University House can host functions such as conferences and meetings in two excellent locations and provide a range of options for private dinning within its heritage rooms.

Private Dining

We can assist you in hosting your own tailored private lunch or dinner at University House. Our talented chefs curate menus with your private events in mind. Talk to us about dietary or other requirements and we can assist in selecting the most appropriate option for you! Whether it be a more formal occasion with a set menu and paired wines, or a casual affair over canapés, we can cater to your needs.

Venues

University House offers two wonderful locations for conferences and meetings; experience Victorian era charm at Professors’ Walk or the spectacular views on offer at the Woodward.

University House Professors’ Walk

The Professors’ Walk venue has private rooms available to members and the general public for meetings, conferences, cocktail parties and dining functions. Intimate dining spaces are available for 4 – 24 guests, and conference spaces are available for 15 – 60 guests,

Large Functions & Conference Dining

  • The Main Dining Room

    Spacious and open, this room is ideal for large functions including dinner dances, weddings, and cocktail parties. This room caters for up to 180 guests for dinner and 300 guests for cocktail parties. The room overlooks gardens to its East and West.

  • Matthaei Room

    Refurbished in 2002 and located in the eastern wing, The Matthaei Room has a picturesque garden aspect. The room is adorned with the Ernst Matthaei Glass Collection – some 200 pieces of early and rare glass. This room caters for up to 70 guests for dinners and 100 guests for cocktails.

  • The Upper East Dining Room

    Refurbished 2001 and located above Lower East Dining Room, with a balcony overlooking the East garden, this room is available for up to 60 guests for lunch and dinner functions and 100 guests for cocktail parties.

Smaller Functions & Private Dining

  • The Karagheusian Room

    With a long banquet table at its centre, this room is ideal for fine dining with up to 30 guests. The room houses a collection of walnut Renaissance-revival furniture relocated from Paris, and features an original Brueghel III oil painting.

  • The Celadon Room

    The Celadon is the smallest of the private dining facilities, seating up to 6 guests. This room is ideal for working lunches and intimate dinners. Features bright interiors and fine Celadon ware on display.

  • The Regency Dining Room

    This elegant dining room is furnished in the Regency period style, and benefits in the afternoon from generous natural light. It can seat up to 12 guests.

  • The Victoria Room

    Furnished in the Victorian style, The Victoria Room is perfect for very private dining of up to 10 guests at the room’s round table.

  • The Leather Room

    Adjacent to the Victoria room, and also furnished in period style. This room is offered for pre-dinner drinks with the Victoria room and Regency Room. It can also be booked separately for cocktail parties, and private dining.

University House at the Woodward

Located on the 10th floor of the Melbourne Law School in Pelham Street, Carlton, a contemporary setting with wonderful views of the city.The Woodward Centre provides flexible, spacious function rooms perfect for events such as cocktail receptions, conferences and formal dinners.
